Diabetes Symptoms are more or less similar in both types of diabetes because of the high levels of blood sugar mainly caused by insulin resistance or less production of insulin or zero production of insulin.
Diabetes Symptoms in Type 1 diabetes
When there is a viral attack on the pancreas or because of an autoimmune response, insulin production hits level zero in case of type 1 diabetes. The primary symptom of type 1 diabetes is nausea which leads to vomiting. Later on during the ketoacidosis stage, the muscle tissue and fat deposits get broken down fast for producing energy and this leads to rapid weight loss. Because of electrolytic disturbance, a patient also experiences dehydration. When diabetes reaches a very advanced stage, one may witness death and coma.
Diabetes Symptoms in type 2 diabetes
One of the commonest Diabetes Symptoms is increased fatigue – a result of negative calorie effect which happens because fat gets broken down to meet the body’s energy requirements.
Weight loss is another common symptom noticed frequently and this happens because of factors like metabolism of body fat and protein, glucosuria, polyuria or loss of water. Again sometimes, many patients experience increased appetites and this leads to weight gain. Thus weight fluctuations are part and parcel of a diabetic patient’s life.
Because of the condition called hyperosmolar hyperglycemia nonketonic syndrome where the tissues become dry because of sucking out of the body fluid, the lenses of the eyes also become dry. The eyes find themselves difficult to focus and the result is a blurry vision.
Another symptom is poor wound healing and this is because white blood cells which control the immune system of the body cannot flourish thanks to the high levels of blood sugar. If WBC starts malfunctioning, the pace at which your wounds will heal will get slackened.
Some other Diabetes Symptoms commonly reported are a rise in urinary tract infections or frequent skin infections, or bacterial or fungal infections, uneasiness, tiredness, irritability, fatigue, polyphegia or increased appetite, polyuria or increased urine production that might also lead to dehydration, polydipsia or increased feelings of thirst etc.
