When cyst ovary is harmless, it won’t give a woman any trouble and there will be no symptoms at all. But one thing is very clear, almost all gynecologists unanimously agree that ovarian cysts in women are on the rise and it has become a very common gynecological problem after uterine fibroids.

Cyst ovary symptoms

Ovarian cysts often show no symptoms, that is, they can be asymptomatic and at other times, there can be conspicuous cyst ovary symptoms. Some of the more common symptoms witnessed in patients suffering from ovarian cysts are abdominal distention, irregular menstruation, delayed menstruation, painful periods, sporadic pelvic pain, experiencing pain during sexual intercourse, pressure in the abdomen, sense of fullness, dull ache and so on.

Some women even complain slicing intolerable pain during periods accompanied by high fever that confines them to bed during menarche. Usually when the cyst ovary is large, it leads to intolerable and severe pain.

When the ovarian cyst grows close to the urinary bladder, the bladder will be constantly subjected to pressure from this abnormal growth and this will lead to frequent urges to urinate.  Some women have complained that the urge to urinate comes on so strongly that it becomes difficult to control the urge for even 10 minutes.

The abdominal region might remain bloated and make a woman feel heavy, even after passing stool. Abnormal bleeding and spotting, different from your menstrual cycles, can also be another symptom of cyst ovary.

At times, in very severe cases, the ovarian hormone producing function gets interrupted or disrupted by the growth of ovarian cysts. In such instances, alterations in the body hair’s growth patterns or abnormal changes in the breasts might occur. But these are in extreme cases.

Another signal of the presence of ovarian cysts can be failure to conceive or repeated instances of miscarriage, when other causes have been ruled out.

If you have a small ovarian cyst, doctors may prescribe for you birth control pills which help to shrink the cysts. But if the ovarian cysts are very large, bigger than 2 inches across and if the symptoms are severe and intolerable, then surgery can be the only option. Some of the surgical methods doctors may consider are hysterectomy, oophorectomy and cystectomy and hormone therapy.
