Cysts Ovaries: What You Need To Know About Ovarian Cysts – A Common Gynecological Problem

Women in their reproductive years often suffer from abnormal growths like fluid filled sacs inside their ovaries and these fluid filled sacs bear close resemblance to blisters. These sacs are known as ovarian cysts or cysts ovaries. Cysts ovaries can form on the ovaries which are two organs shaped like almonds and placed on both sides of the uterus. Like uterine fibroids, the most common types of cysts ovaries are harmless, wont cause symptoms and won’t require any treatment to go away.
Types of cysts ovaries
Polycystic ovarian disease
A buildup of follicles leads to the development of this disease. The ovaries get enlarged due to the formation of these types of cysts and it also leads to the formation of a thick external covering on the ovaries. The latter leads to fertility problems, problems in conception and also prevents normal ovulation.
Cystadenoma cysts
There are cells which form on the ovaries’ outer surface. When cysts develop from these types of cells, they are called Cystadenoma cysts.
Endometrioma cysts
The other name for these cysts is chocolate cysts. These chocolate cysts form from the endometriosis. When a type of tissue that bears strong resemblance with the uterine lining gets attached to the ovaries, it gives rise to Endometrioma cysts.
Dermoid cysts
When different varieties of tissues including skin and hair start filling up the cysts, they are called dermoid ovarian cysts.
Functional cysts
It takes around 2 to 3 periods for these normal kinds of cysts to shrink and then disappear in general cases. Menopausal women rarely experience such cysts as their ovulation has stopped and they no longer produce eggs. Functional cysts are usually formed when a woman ovulates.
Causes of cysts ovaries
Polycystic ovarian disease, a kind of abnormal growth of ovarian cysts, and seen pretty commonly nowadays, often results when there is an imbalance in the production of female hormones progesterone and estrogen.
The ovaries are there in your body to produce 1 egg every month. When a woman ovulates, a follicle that is shaped like a cyst is often created in the interiors of the ovary. During ovulation, when the ovaries release an egg, this mature follicle gets ruptured. The empty follicle witnesses the development of a corpus luteum and this corpus luteum dissolves if there is no pregnancy.
When the appropriate conclusion of this whole process does not take place, it gives rise to functional cysts ovaries – the commonest variety of cysts ovaries.
